In the early 90’s, Ubud has already been the top destination for tourists to relax and get rid of their hectic lives. Wapa di Ume (formerly Waka di Ume) was built in 1993 by Mr. I Wayan Pasek or Mr. Wapa. Situated at 700 above the sea level and surrounded by the panoramic view of paddy fields and the horizon of southern Bali has generated the name of “di Ume”; “di” = in the, and “Ume” = rice fields, which inspires the “bundled paddies” logo that represents the sustainable and green living at the resort.
And, the former name “Waka” was originally derived from the father in law of Mr. Wapa, Mr. I Wayan Kari (1930-2014), who was also a father, a teacher, and the key influencer to Mr. Wapa’s hospitality business career. The resort was first managed under the Waka Hotel Management together with Mr. Wapa’s brother in laws, which then in 2013, the resort became independently run.
Having the opportunity to get involved in promoting Bali through hospitality industry, Mr. Wapa pointed out that the resort and the team should be small, intimate, and strong in order to create the most memorable experience for all guests. And most importantly, it is mandatory to keep the resort up to date, innovative, and continuously well maintained. As time went by, the resort was slowly expanded from only 1 restaurant, 1 swimming pool, and 4 rooms; however, after passing through the bitter sweet flashes for almost three decades, now Wapa di Ume is developed with the total of 33 unit rooms and villas and additional new facilities.
